Re: A pratical way to test RF transmission lines

The SDRplay RSP series are an amazing line of test instruments masqurading as a SDR. But there are problems that require other test instruments. I was given a 200 foot roll of Andrews Heliax. This is premium coaxial cable and consists of an flexible solid aluminum tube that is the shield. The loss i...

Re: Receiver or Spectrum Analyzer input protection

Receiver or Spectrum Analyzer input protection. One of my coworkers was using his RSP1 as a RF voltmeter and managed to smoke the front end. I wasn't present but his 10 year old daughter's comments about a "firegod special" are suggestive... We opened it up and the PCB has traces vaporized...

Re: Some thoughts and observations on the RSP1a and EMI

I had to ask for help, a heatmap that covers 100KHz to 20MHz in 10KHz blocks, covers 10 square miles, and has time, is complex. One needs a Ph.D. in advanced statistics to do it on their own and even then they will need a very talented computer geek. My thesis won't be a "paper" it will be...

Re: Someone wrote: I have a 50 ohm BNC coax connector on about 75 feet of RG6 75 ohm coax.

Someone asked: "I have a 50 ohm BNC coax connector on about 75 feet of RG6 75 ohm coax. Is that RG-6 now 50 ohm coax?" Nope, you've described the vast number of video interconnects for analog (NTSC) video.... I suspect there were at least a million 75 ohm analog video coaxial cable with 50...

Re: Some Interesting Antennas

Sorry, I was a bit distracted trying to compare the values these guys measured with SDRuno http://radiojove.org/SUG/Pubs/Testing%20the%20Accuracy%20of%20the%20SDRUno%20Power%20Meter%20with%20the%20SDRPlay%20RSP2,%20Brown%20&%20Flagg%20(2018).pdf FWIW, I' delete this and repost in the proper sect...

Some Interesting Antennas

At the moment I have some free time, I had to modify my Ph.D plan, which requires a complete reevaluation. The test instruments needed to perform my original plan don't exist. In the meantime I get to play radio and camp out on mountain tops checked a power line survey. One of the joy of the SDRplay...
