Re: RA0SMS vs PA0RDT Active Mini Whip - RA0SMS is Very Noisy - Why?
Peaks every 10 kHz sounds familiar - where are you located? If you are in the USA, then this may be intermodulation from MW broadcast stations which are spaced by 10 kHz. It sounds like the RA0SMS antenna may be a sub-standard design compared to the PA0RDT. Yes, I am in the US. I tried a broadcast ...

Re: What’s going on here ?? Receiving but no antenna
I've lost track - is it picking stuff up with nothing connected to the antenna socket, or with the balun connected?

Re: Shortwave reception help
Yes, it's horses-for-courses. I can't use wires or mini-whips here, there's too much noise. The loop is the only way for me, it gets rid of 90% of the hash. I'm a bit puzzled why your antenna transformer made the noise worse, that's really unusual. I've found that a transformer always gets the noise...

Re: Laptop Settings for SDRuno
I've used several laptops, including an elderly P6200, an i3 and an i5, all clocked between 2.1 and 2.4 GHz and from 1 to 8 GB of memory. All have 15 inch screens and standard Intel HD 5500-type onboard graphics. All work fine, although the old P6200 could stutter a bit above 6 MHz b/w. The rest of ...

Re: AM modulation monitor software
Hi Mark. I'm a bit confused - what does this do that an SDR cannot do itself? Is it not just receiving off-air signals and displaying the spectrum? Sorry if I've missed something obvious (it wouldn't be the first time...).

Re: RSP error (tune) SDRuno will terminate
Is this the crash that happens when you tune through certain band edges? I seem to recall it only happens if you have the 'Gain Reduction' slider set to 'RF Gain' . It's something like that, but I don't recall exactly.

Re: A query regarding eathing (grounding)
Oh no. If you ask a hundred people you'll get a hundred conflicting opinions. My experiences suggest that these days, with all manner of devices dumping noise onto the mains and into the earth system, there is no hard and fast rule. I've found that on some bands an earth can make the noise less, on ...

Re: Intefearance reducing/anti jamming antenna
I'd like to see an 'equivalent circuit' to that, as I can't work out what is meant to be happening. It looks like (perhaps) it's a version of the QRM eliminator idea, where a null is introduced into the radiation pattern of the radio's antenna by combining the signal from the other antenna in antiph...
