Re: Great experience with PAR Electronics EF-SWL

LNRPrecision say it is a 1-30 MHz rx antenna. Anyone can post some performance figures of such antenna vs frequency range? I mean, this is a "short" wire (about 12 m), it performs the same at 10MHz and at 1MHz? I dont think so. I have some experience in DIY random wire antenna, and I know...

Re: Proximity to computer

Computers in the vicinity of receivers always can cause trouble. Make sure that the antenna is as far away from the house as possible and insert a common mode choke directly at the antenna input of the receiver to block common mode noise induced into the coaxial cable by switching power supplies and...

Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

Sorry, but modifications of the bias T do not compensate the design of all the rest. Chris Trask (among others) has built several whip amplifiers and recommends (among other designs) an input stage which has an active current sink as a load resistor. Re: ADS-B ob RSP 1?

Will I need a special antenna? A special antenna designed for the 1 GHz range is not a bad idea. Wideband antennas sometimes do not give strong enough signals in this frequency range. I used a simple homemade construction for my RTL dongle tests made of copper wire like this http://www.qsl.net/dl4m...

Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

It is not my intention to blame something or someone. But I would neither recommend to use dual gate Mosfet nor to apply extra amplification in an active whip antenna. I know that dual gate Mosfets were the absolute must in the 80s of the last century and were often used in RF amplifiers and active ...

Re: Will SDR Play work to do HF Aviation Scanning?

CSVUserlistBrowser app. Please mind that a list browser interfacing via a serial COM port cannot replace a communication scanner. It's just meant for a rudimentary overwiev of what is present on given channels (mainly broadcast stations). Moreover SDRuno does not report valid squelch levels by CAT,...

Re: ZeusRadio may soon be compatile with SDRPLay

After the ZS1 transceiver hadn't brought the expected success they guys tried to bring in some money by selling the ExtIO and HPSDR version of Zeusradio. First they distributed free test versions in various forums and collected user reports. Then all of a sudden the "final" version was no ...

Re: New user question - please see my screenshot

the longwire comes directly into the shack and the SDR. This is no good arrangement. Keep everything which acts like an antenna as far away as possible from your house (and neighbouring houses), match the antenna to 50 Ohms at its best and use coaxial cables to bring the signals into the house. Pla...

Re: pwr supply for miniwhtp

Hello, I do not know which electronic shops in the States still have analogue PS in their portfolio. I have searched a bit in ebay.com, but the result was a desaster: All wallmart PS I found were switched. Some hamradio shops still have 12/13.8 V PS at higher amperage which are analogue. But they ar...

Re: New user question - please see my screenshot

Appr. 75 kHz spacing. Could be a switched power supply or plasma/LCD telly, indeed. If the source is in your own home (room), try a common mode choke in the coaxial cable at the receiver input or better ban every switched PS from your house. When the source is your neighbour: Good luck with your neg...
