Re: Antenna for RSP2

There is no single antenna that will perform well on all bands, so you have to narrow down your bands of interest or use more than one antenna. A wideband active loop antenna like the Wellbrook 1530 will serve you well from LF to 30 MHz, but if you want to go higher you should try dipoles, discones ...

Re: RSP1A-14bit-ADC-info

Apparently the Mirics chip has always had 14-bit capability, but its original application did not need it and it was 'turned off'. Now the SDRPlay team has found a way to unlock the extra performance, but only at sample rates below 6 MHz.

Re: Fake stations on the spectrum

Changing sample rates will move the images in some cases. They won't disappear, they will just go somewhere else. Remember that before we had spectrum displays, we probably wouldn't have known about the spurious responses of our receivers, it's only now we can see wide sections of spectrum that we n...

Re: RSP1A: wobbling spurs around 2.335MHz * n

Phil.

I don't listen much above 160 m these days, but I think the upper roll-off must be pretty slow as MW and 160 both seem just as lively as ever.

Re: RSP1A: wobbling spurs around 2.335MHz * n

Phil - you said ' for VLF it's hard to feed the RSP2's balanced input via anything other than balanced line, despite my strident support for balanced feeders, ferrites just don't go down there.' They do if you get the right ferrite. I'm a low frequency enthusiast and I feed my Wellbrook 1530 loop to...

Re: RSP1A: wobbling spurs around 2.335MHz * n

Oh dear, that's not good! A bit of an oversight by the usually thorough SDRPlay team? I'll stick with my RSP2.

Re: RSP1A: wobbling spurs around 2.335MHz * n

I think the tech team have said that these are products of the small switch-mode PSUs within the RSP1a itself. I don't think there's any cure, but they show up more at low gain settings and almost disappear into the noise as you turn the gain up.

Re: SDRplay questions

I'm surprised plasasasa has found his magnetic loop antenna so bad, although I am not sure which type he means - a ring-dipole type with a tuning cap at the top or a wideband untuned active one like the Wellbrook? I have been using a Wellbrook 1530 for the last 14 years and it's a real noise-buster....

Re: Antenna port limitations

I've found that the A&B inputs get slowly worse as the frequency drops, especially the one that has the bias-t. Hi-z is much better at LF. Long wires can be very bad if there is local noise about. I can't hear anything much on my vertical wire no matter what aerial port I use! So I use a Wellbro...

Re: New User Problems

Hi Tom. SDRUno has a steep learning curve, but once you've mastered it it is a very powerful, feature-rich program. I've had the original RSP1 and now I have the RSP2. The RSP1a has only one antenna input, so you obviously haven't got THAT wrong! The only thing that springs to mind is the frequency ...
