Re: Got my RSP2 today! First impressions: Images

I edited and completed some of my posts above over the day. Today I tried to compare the two RSP's susceptibility to imaging. To do this, I used a wide 8MHz bandwidth and a common start frequency, then I used the mouse wheel to sweep the frequency upwards. Anything not having the same slant as the o...

Re: Got my RSP2 today! First impressions:

You know you're getting old when you get a new radio and don't pull an all-nighter  When reading Jon's writeup about the Hi-Z port, I remembered that I had another of those NooElec baluns (isn't that an unun?) floating around and tried the "reverse balun" trick - with the result that nothin...

Re: Got my RSP2 today! First impressions:

Unfortunately it looks like I spoke too soon about HF, something seems to be amiss about the LNA and gain: By accident I tuned to 19450kHz and wondered about signals up there, the upper bands are dead tonight. Turned out that was all images from CRI mixed with R.Romania (likely from 49m and/or 41m, ...

Got my RSP2 today! First impressions:

I got my RSP2 this afternoon, woohoo! I was about time! Gladly I had the latest API etc. installed, so I just had to plug it in and put it to a test. But first I had to check the calibration, so I tuned to RWM 14996kHz - just in time to see the predicted coronal hole high speed stream making RWM and...

Re: What is "LO Plan Frequency"

The RSP initially had a gap between 370 and 420MHz with the standard LO frequency of 120MHz. To make reception possible in that range anyway, they later introduced a scheme to change the LO frequency when you tune through this range. 144MHz gives you gaps from 250 to 255MHz and 400 to 420MHz, 168MHz...

Re: Zero vs Low IF

In Zero IF mode you are getting a pronounced "DC spike" due to the design architecture. The RSP (and also the SDR software) are trying to suppress that spike in a way that's insufficient on VHF/UHF (there's still a spike) and over-sufficient on shortwave and below - the spike turns into a notch. If ...

Re: QRN (noise) reduction?

I think the OP was referring to AF noise reduction, but mixed that in with RF noise as well. Of course the main directive is to avoid noise in first place by means of antenna construction and location. But (not only) once you got the optimum out of your antenna, you may want to have some good DSP on...

Re: SDR Uno - first impressions

Just found out that SDRuno has one little thing ahead of the competition (not only) for FMDX: On occasion of a current mild tropo opening I just learned how useful the passband tuning feature (use the right mouse button to move the whole filter passband left or right) can be when you have a local po...

Re: Spectrum Display won't move

If the whole frequency scale turns yellow you're fully zoomed out (so there's no zoomed area to shift left or right). Zoom in a little and you'll see how it works.
