Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

All three wallplugs seem to be overchallanged for me. They have no or little headroom. Maybe the 100 mA type could work. But all three seem to be switched types and especially in the vicinity of an E field antenna (like the whip) RF noise must be taken into account. From the label alone you cannot s...

Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

I have many power supplies that are labeled as 12-15V and 100-150ma but when measured, are nowhere near the printed output. All are over voltage and current. The current rating is not so important when it is above the 150 mA which are required. You can use a PS with 70 A rating although this is of ...

Re: RA0SMS Miniwhip bad performance on SDRPlay

@Heinrich Opinions on this design? The antenna will certainly work. But as I said I would not trust the a BF998 or other dual gate. Better use a J310 and an old BG591 or BFU590 or a good original 2N5109. Stabilise the bias voltage for the J310 with a voltage regulator and make it adjustable for bes...

Re: Automation/remote control?

Points well taken about TeamViewer. Again, for my rather narrow application it wouldn't have been a problem but for more extensive use I certainly see where RDP is a better option. Give AnyDesk a try. It's from former Teamviewer staff members and many tests confirmed fast response and high data com...

Re: SDRuno - Rig Syncronization

DIGITAL however - no good. The rig doesn't change mode at all. That would be OK except after clicking SDRUno DIGITAL I can no longer put my FTdx3K into DATA-USB. Everytime I try it gets setback to USB. Yes, seems so. SDRuno goes to LSB when DIG-L is sent from the rig and to USB when DIG-U is sent. ...

When you launch SDRuno.EXTIO?
BTW: Funcube pro+ is not fully supported. It shows an error message that setting RF & IF gain is not possible. But it basically works. (I only have an FCD pro+, no idea how other Funcubes work.)

Re: HP Laptop Brick noise

Yes, I've been seriously considering building a filtered and regulated power supply. Yes, good idea. But you have to consider the high amperage the laptops often need. E. g. my 8 year old Lenovo (non-gamer, standard office laptop!) consumes up to 15 A at 23 Volts. I also seriously thought about bui...

Re: HP Laptop Brick noise

Laptop power supplies can be very nasty. This is not related to the brand. I owned both HP and Lenovo laptops and the PS of both were a desaster. The Lenovo PS even made reception of digital DAB+ radio impossible when it was on while the radio was in the same room. I also tried to denoise them by en...

Re: Random wire questions

As a LOG is easy to build I made some experiments the last days. The image shows a 4 x 5 m LOG and a 14 m wideband magnetic loop side by side on my Anan Angelia (portion of the 49 m band). Without a preamp the LOG is almost unusable. I added an old preamp with a PGA 103+ (which I had in my tinkerbox...

Re: Great experience with PAR Electronics EF-SWL

Hi Andy, I am using two wideband magnetic loop antennas as well. One has 14 m circumference, the other one 5 m. The amplifiers are homebrew (LZ1AQ style, but not using AF transistors). In the beginning I also assumed that magnetic loops will pick up less noise than other types of antennas as many re...
