There are several types of service monitors, if it is a good 2-way shop they will know what you are asking for... I have an IFR, but as I mentioned, there are many types, by several makers...

Contact a 2-Way shop in your area, ask if they can use the service monitor they all have to test the rigs sensitivity. If you are in Oregon, I have one and can assist.

I have been using my three diameter loop with my SDRPlay RSP-1 without a preamp for a few weeks now... I see all sorts of signals. If you are seeing nothing, check your loop construction. You should hear a pronounced increase in background noise as you tune through resonance. Make sure you are liste...

I have mine tied to the station ground, which is a eight foot ground rod, and that ground rod is tied to the service entrance ground for electrical. Multiple grounds, not tied together, scare me.

I am using HDSDR, and had the same issue. I killed the AGC, and added an attenuator on the input of the RSP-1. I try and keep the input levels reasonable to the radio using the attenuator. Hello, If possible, please leave in the ability to show a full 24 hour period of time in the actual displayed waterfall.
