I do hope you are right, certainly there are a lot of young people with iPads and iPhones, the natural progression is for them to adopt the Mac.
Always the problem with Mac's have been the price.
I always try and persuade people that look at price as a start by saying, I have 2 Mac's one is a Macbook pro 2009 and the other an iMac 2009 BOTH were bought secondhand and are in daily use.
I don't have numerous crashes and daily updates and my mac as they say "just works"

My 2 sons also have Macs

My wife has an iPad and we both have iPhones

Software development races on for iPads and iPhones NOT SO for Mac computers.

We need fresh blood in the Mac world and i hope what you say is correct as i personally welcome new talent.

As for Ham radio software, well it doesn't make big bucks and like Linux it tends to draw programmers that do it for the hobby not so much for the money.

Hi,

I don't understand your comment. "old farts" is a strange comment to make as we were talking about new people in amateur radio as well as the changing landscape of people getting into electronics. At what point did that become negative? The last two posts were all about the future and how things are changing. But ultimately about finding a solution to running the SDRplay product on a Mac.

All people who have posted in this thread really want is to run the product on a Mac. I don't know why anyone would read this thread and then just post "everyone uses Windows" as a comment or when we comment on that message that the world is changing that somehow we are being disrespectful. I did not see any disrecptpful comment there.

However the word does keep changing. If people cannot even discuss or comment on that without people getting angry about it then I think there is going to be some big difficulties for amateur radio the future. Amateur radio is a technology and a place of research and discovery. Its not a culture. Anything that becomes a culture becomes static and dead over time. So I think its important to be able to discuss things and be open to new, new ways of doing things, new technology and most important of all new people

But ultimately I would just like know how to get this product to work on a Mac. Its in the marketing for the product but I am just not getting it to work when following the procedures multiple people have described. Most people who posted in this thread would just like to get it working.

Thats an important point and I do think that computers have somewhat lagged behind the excitement of the iPhone and iPad area in development. However whats nice is the computers are at least getting smaller and more portable. And thats been exciting for SDR as it means the whole setup is much smaller than a traditional radio set. Who would have believed that!

Mac's are expensive but they are quite nice to use. I don't like the keyboard on the latest versions, but I think overall the products are nice and a lot of people will spend the money when they get something nice no matter the platform. Its quite amazing to think we can get a laptop that runs all day of constant use, while a few years ago we had to plug in the charger if we were in a meeting that went for more than an hour. You never really see people clamoring to plug in their laptops these days. Its very nice and so I guess we are at least benefiting from the iPhone, iPad and electric car era. I know Mac OS batches the threads so it can keep the processor shut down for power saving and the batteries are so much better now.

So even though the computers themselves are not the hot area of development, they sure are getting some positive blowback from the advances in the portable electronics products.

Hello Grantp,
The comment from g4jnw was in response to another post that we considered to be inappropriate and offensive an has since been deleted. It was not in reference to anything you wrote.

Oh ok and thats a relief and I think its a very good idea to take off posts that are deliberately offensive or just nasty. It keeps the forum working well and focused on people helping each other.

There is a really good thread on the mac a few threads down in the list where it recomends the following link http://www.sdrplay.com/software/CubicSD ... Darwin.dmg to download the software. I tried that and it saw the SDRplay which is great, however when I selected the device it instantly crashed the app. Thats a shame! So close!

The post quoted the OS version 10.12.3 as being used, but I am running the latest OS which is 10.12.4. Could that have broken something? Does anyone have the latest OS and MacBook Pro computer running the software?

I'm using CubicSDR with SDRPlay on OS X 10.12.4 and I've already replied to your previous post but didn't get the required feedback to be able to help you troubleshoot the problem.
Here's my previous reply:
Hi
Can you provide more info about your scenario? (your OS X version, the API you've installed, CubicSDR's version, etc)
Make sure you've done these two steps:
1- Install the latest SDRPlay API from SDRPlay's downloads section (http://www.sdrplay.com/macdl.php)
2- Download the CubicSDR from SDRPlay's downloads page (http://www.sdrplay.com/software/CubicSD ... Darwin.dmg)

It just works out of the box (I just tested it on macOS 10.12.4)
Other than using the CubicSDR provided by SDRPlay, you can compile the latest source code, if you wish.

Computers have NOT lagged behind anything and Macs are no more expensive than comparable windows machine especially once you factor in resale value.
Hate when people recite FUD from the 90's.

Greetings all - newbie to the SRDplay arena here. I have been using one of the el cheapo SDR dongles for a few months, along with SDR#. I use the software on my iMac, running OS X and VMware, with the Windows 10 guest. It works OK, but as you probably now, there are spikes/spurs up the wazoo all over the place, and the dongle is, well... not so polished. I am interested in receiving various frequencies, but in particular the ham 70 cm band for satellite downlink signals.

To that end I just today ordered an RSP2pro from Ham Radio Outlet - looking forward to getting it and trying it out. However, after wading through the seemingness endless posts in this thread, I am unable to determine (1) is there now a native Mac version SDRuno or, if not (2) will there ever be one?

As I mentioned, I've got an SDR dongle connected to SDR# on Windows 10 under VMware. What I see is a significant lag of 1 - 1.5 seconds in the audio. I can key my Elecraft K3 radio at 50.100 MHz on CW and hear the CW tone from the SDR# software through the iMac built-in speaker a second or so after pressing the key on the K3. I attribute that lag to the software running in a virtual environment, as there is no lag when I do that same key-down on the K3 and listen on my other ham rig - a KX3.

For those of you running SDRuno in a virtual environment like mine - is that lag present, or is that an issue with SDR#?

Thanks, Jim / W6JHB
