First Encounter

Hello,

The SDRplay is my first encounter with software defined radio – I’m very impressed. :D

Over the years I’ve had many receivers, such as the Eddystone 840, Trio 9R59DS, Kenwood R2000, and Yaesu FRG7700. They varied in sensitivity, selectivity, and stability – and cost much more than the SDRplay.

From what I’ve seen so far, the SDRplay beats them on all counts. :)

The key difference using an SDR receiver, is that you get a wide spectrum display of where stations are active on all bands – much better than hopefully twiddling a tuning knob to see what turns up. You can easily move to another station with the click of the mouse button.

I’ve got a lot to learn about how SDR works – there are so many options and settings.

Having done some computer programming in my time, I appreciate the work that must have gone into making this system work – the colourful user interface, the Fast Fourier Transform data processing, the tie in with the computer’s USB and sound output. – brilliant. :D

I look forward to many hours of pleasant listening using the magnificent SDRplay.

Best wishes, :)
