SDRuno control for Ts-590sg

Newbie here -

I have the SDRplay working just fine with UNO, and works great. Now i am trying to get rig control on my 590sg. I read the instructions that said to create a com10-11 port. I have a COM7 port i have created for HRD and that is working great for Rig control on HRD. But when i start UNO i am getting programs competing for same port. I do not have a com10.

So without starting HRD i am just trying to use UNO for rig control on com7.

My RX setting tab CAT says its connected com7, but does not change Radio VFO.
On the ORIG tab i have the sync boxes checked and still no VFO control.

What am i missing? appreciate any help.

I assume that your TS590 is connected to a port COM 7 on your PC.
Have you set up the TS590 in Omnirig Settings as RIG1 (or RIG2)?
You cannot use this COM port simultaneously with multiple programs (unless you make use of COM port splitters, but this not stuff for a beginner). All programs using this port must be closed (HRD, Kenwood control program) otherwise Omnirig cannot open the port.
The CAT control setting in SDRuno is something completely different. It does not control your rigs. Better de-activate a COM 7 there to avoid just another port conflict.
When Omnirig is running on COM 7 you cannot control your TS590 with HRD because Omnirig occupies the port. To make multiple access of one COM port available you must use the "splitter" technology that comes with e. g. VSPE. I decscribed here
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1567&p=4882&hilit=splitter#p4882
how this works with my IC-8500.

BTW: I would like to read the "instructions" which gave advice to use a COM10-11 pair for controlling a TS590. Where did you find them?

Here is where i read about con10-11 as i am using HRD
9.3 Example: connecting to Ham Radio Deluxe
Start creating a pair of virtual com ports named COM10 – COM11; do not select the “emulated baud rate”
(you need to do this only once).
Launch SDRuno; assuming we wish to control VRX#0, open the CAT settings of that VRX. COM10 is
selected per default; check “ENABLE & CONNECT”, the status should change to “CONNECTED”. Close
the RX Settings window.
Launch HRD; click on “Connect”. The first time you need to create a new radio connection: select
“Kenwood” as “Company” and TS-440S (for basic controls) or TS-480 (for additional AF gain, squelch
level and S-meter controls) as radio type. Select COM11 as “COM Port” and click “Connect”.
Once the connection has started you can try to change frequency, mode etc.
In other programs select a generic Kenwood as radio or the above models.

Yes, I see. This is one method to connect HRD with SDRuno while SDRuno connects to the TS590 via Omnirig.
The connection between HRD and SDRuno is done through a COM port pair COM10 <=> COM11 and SDRuno controls the TS590 via Omnirig on COM7.
But this setup has a drawback: You cannot control the TS590 any more when HRD is running alone (without SDRuno). You must disconnect Omnirig from COM7 and connect the TS590 in HRD to COM7 again. This is a bit unhandy.

As you need a virtual COM port emulator anyway I would recommend to set up a splitter in VSPE.
1. Create a splitter COM7 => COM3 (COM3 is an example, it must be a COM port not yet used in your PC).
2. Assign the TS590 in Ominirg to COM3 (not COM7!)
3. Assign the TS590 in HRD to COM3 as well (not COM7!).
4. Deactivate the CAT control in SDRuno completely (unless you need it for another purpose) to avoid undesired COM port overlaps with one of the ports involved.
Now both HRD alone and the combination of Omnirig (SDRuno) and HRD can access the TS590 which is attached to COM7 (the VSPE emulation must of course always be running).
This is how I control my IC-8500 as mentioned above.

I have visited the VSPE web site to download, but is $25, not free from what i can tell. Is there another free version of this somewhere?
I am running 64-bit OS. look like previous versions were free but not this one.

Go ahead and download the 64 bit. Its free but every time you run it to create the shared com port it will ask you for an activation number. You can decline and it will still run. if you choose not to be asked just pay the money. I ran it for a couple of weeks everyday until i was sure i was going to use it and then I paid. I am running the Kenwood TS 590SG with HRD rig control and and logging software with the SDRUno software. I have it set up so the HRD rig control has a two way relationship with the radio and the SDR software has a one way relationship with the radio. Meaning I can tune the radio without changing the waterfall but if i click on the waterfall it will adjust the freq of the radio and in tern change the rig control. I use the waterfall as a means of spotting contacts. It's been working well for a couple of months now without issues. When setting this at first I had some difficulty with the ports and the settings in the SDR software and HRD but once i got it right it sure has made a difference in the contacts made and the fun had.

Not to hijack this thread but I'm having a strange problem with VSPE.

I've read all the posts and watched a few videos so I am fairly certain I have all the settings correct. Here is my setup
Laptop Win10
TS590S using the USB connection from the radio (shows up as COM4 on laptop)
OmniRig - Setup to COM5
SDRuno - Connected OK to Omnirig
VSPE - Splitter. Virtual = Com5 and Actual = Com4
HRD - ready to go on COM5

OmniRig connects to the Com5 port OK but SDRuno reports it can't read from the radio. I've tried every combination imaginable. If I remove (stop) VSPE and configure omnirig to just connect to COM4 then everything works. But since I want SDRuno and HRD I need the splitter. But I can't get the splitter to work.

Ideas? Is everyone else with a 590 using the USB or the actual COM plug on the back with an adaptor?

Thanks,
Rich
