What would be the correct length for a vertical antenna for 1090 mhz? Thanks!

The wavelength at 1000 MHz (near enough) is 30 cm. For a quarter-wave groundplane, the length of the vertical element would be 30/4 = 7.5 cm. For a dipole, each leg would be 7.5 cm.
