SDRuno V1.22/V1.23 an observation

Post by Paul » Sat Jun 02, 2018 6:19 am

Having read comments so far, regarding the "maturity" of V1.23 and it's suitabilty to earlier RSP's, I have downloaded, installed and run V1.23 alongside V1.22 as a personal trial and for what it's worth, am including two screenshots, showing the same area of thespectrum using my RSP2 with the same antenna and settings in both iterations (labeled V1.22 and V1.23) for whatever help/use it may be.
Selecting MW filter in V1.23 appears to worsen breakthrough.
Please note that I am probably an average SWL operator with virtually zero radio-technical expertise.

Addendum to my previous - only difference in settings - one in SAM & one in USB, but I do not believe that it significantly alters the effect shown.

Hello Paul,
We will check this. The notch filters are hardware, so if there is a substantial difference, it has to be because the hardware is not being controlled correctly.

Thanks for flagging this.

Hello Paul,
I have checked this, but can find no indication that the notch filter is not working correctly with the RSP2. To confirm, can you go to the AM/MW band and check again? Also check that you gain slider is working correctly. If you are able to reliably find a sequence that results in the AM band notch filter not working correctly, can you open up a support ticket at www.sdrplay.com/support ?

Hello again Paul,
If you are able to replicate the effect you were seeing with the notch filter, can you try stopping and starting the stream to see if that helps? If that doesn't help, can you try quitting SDRuno and re-starting it to see if that clears the problem? I think the problem might actually be that the gain control gets locked out on port A/B with the RSP2 and moving the slider has no effect on the actual gain setting. I have seen this once or twice but have not yet managed to find the sequence that triggers this problem.

Sincerely

Hi Support
I have revisited the same spectrum area (obviously at a different time of day - with more time available) and taken care to try different antenna choices.
The strong AM signal breakthrough is still there on the same antenna (Wellbrook 1530LN), but considerably weaker on longwires and an active-mini-whip.
However, my current experience indicates that reducing the RF attenuation (to the bottom of the scale) on this antenna decreases the breakthrough dramatically (perhaps the opposite to what may be expected - at least by me) and the notch works normally on both v1.23 and 1.22.
I have not reproduced the effect previously observed and hope not to waste your time with more such probable non-issues.
Thanks for all the hard work and the use of what I reckon is an outstanding programme - it's a pleasure to use.

Paul,

I've found for my RSP-1 that the LNA control is inverted. See if that might be the issue for you as well with your RSP2.
