Sample Rate, Decimation, BW, SNR Relationship

Post by Sunking » Mon Jul 23, 2018 2:25 am

OK I have had my RSP3Pro for a few days playing with it trying to figure out how to set up Sample Rate vs Decimation and how it effects SNR and Sensitivity. Example if I set SR = 10 Mbs and Decimate by 1, and enter 5.0 Mhz I see 0 to 10 Mhz BW and 5 Mhz Center. Basically with that I can see the AM Broadcast up to 30 Meters. However when I click on say 5 Mhz to listen to WWV Time Signal, it sounds like crap or no signal at all. FWIW I know to move the LO Frequency off RX Frequency in AM Mode. No if I change SR = 2 Mhz and Decimate to 4 for 300 Khz BW I get good reception.

So what I guess I am asking is there a rule of thumb or formula to use to maximize Reception. Looks like there is some correlation to Signal Band Width, Operating Frequency, and Analyzer Screen Bandwidth I have not got my noodle wrapped around
