SDRuno CAT menu

I have Omnirig set up beautifully with 2-way communication between Uno and the Knwd 870. All is good and I am a happy camper.
But if I go to RX Control Panel and the CAT menu, I can't seem to get a Connect.

Even after reading the manual, I have questions...

1) Do I NEED to have this CAT feature enabled? Apparently I don't since Omnirig seems to be doing its thing.

2) What is the design purpose of this CAT feature if all appears to be handled by Omnirig?

Omni-Rig for communication between SDRuno and your transceiver.

CAT is to make SDRuno behave like a transceiver (Kenwood TS-480)
