Thank you very much for adding scanning in Rel 1.3 of SDRuno.

Question:

When using the scanning function and with the “Scan Mode” set to “MEM”, should the “Mode” (e.g.AM, FM) be used during the scanning process?

The memory file contains both mode and filter bandwidth, but the scanning function only appears to use the frequency information.

Hello G8PTN,
The most effective way to use memory panel scanning is to organise frequencies of interest into a range of memory banks, where the frequencies in each bank are all within the same band using the same modulation type and bandwidth. Also for speed of scanning, it makes sense to order them by increasing frequency (by clicking on the frequency banner in the memory panel).
Switching demodulation mode is quite slow because you have to change SP2 filter bandwidth and flush the audio buffers and this can take a substantial amount of time. For fast scanning, the demodulation mode and bandwidth should be set up before the scanner is started. Mixing and matching frequencies of different modulation types in different bands will not make for effective scanning. Mode switching will be too slow and it will probably be very difficult to find a RF gain setting that is optimum for the different bands. Also the noise floor is likely to be different in different bands and so setting the threshold correctly would be difficult or impossible.
Once you have your memory banks organised, scanning the memory panel will be a lot smoother, faster and more effective.

Sincerely

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt response. All points noted and understood. It would still be useful to monitor a variety of bands. Assuming memory banks are organised as suggested, I wonder if it would then be possible to scan multiple memory banks.

Example:
Aircraft (AM) >> 2m Ham Band (NFM) >> 70cm Ham Band (NFM) >> back to Aircraft bank

Regards,
Dave

Many thanks for adding the enhanced capability in SDRuno 1.31.

Extract from Release Notes:
“Memory Panel scan now uses the mode, sub-mode and filter bandwidth that is defined in the memory panel.”

In my opinion this now makes the RSP with SDRuno an excellent general purpose scanner.

Congratulations to all of the SDRplay team for the fantastic customer service.

Kind Regards,
Dave
