SDRuno, RTL-SDR, FIFI-SDR, Softrock, and Airspy

Postby GrahamC » Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:59 am

good day all,

I am not trying to rock the boat as it were given the past history of SDRSharp and SDRPlay differing points of view. It was a shame it happened but hopefully we can all move on.

In any case, I have been using SDRuno with my SDRPlay for several days and am very please with it overall.

However, like most tinkerers, I explore many different paths and in that respect in addition to a SDRPLay I also have and regularly use different hardware such as the ubiquitous RTL-SDR devices, softrock, FIFI-SDR, and yes, even an Airspy. To support all of these different bits of hardware has up to now required having multiple SDR applications all installed, setup and working on my computers.

The SDRuno manual section 3.3 Selecting an input source describes that if a SDRPlay RSP is not connected then SDRuno will load an ExtIO.dll from the SDRuno folder [etc...]

I haven't had the chance to test this functionality yet.

Has anyone tried SDRuno with a RTL-SDR or Airspy (or ??) using this feature?

cheers, Graham ve3gtc

Tyes if you disconnect the RSP, yo can load any extio, limited to 1mhz or under of bandwidth, so the RTL's max is 0.96Mhz, but they work great
the rtl extio has an issue that the drop downs do not work, but click on it and you can use the cursor keys to change the value from 2.4Msps t 0.96 and then it will work...

Paul,

Thank you, that was just the answer I was looking for. I had everything all in the right place for RTL dongle but kept getting an error about sample rate. I just never tried anything less than 1 msps.

Works like a charm except that I have to re-select sample rate and ppm correction every time I restart SDRuno unless you have a trick for that too. But that is just a minor annoyance.

Now to try FIFI SDR.

Success!

I got SDRuno v1.1 working with FIFI SDR on Windows 10.

You need to install the FIFI driver first and then ensure you have the Si570 EXTIO DLL copied into the (for now maybe) the my documents folder and the SDRuno folder for good measure.

Also, you will need libusb0.dll (I think - I needed it for HDSDR) and copy into the Windows and Windows/system32 and the folders were the applications are. You may only need in the windows folder but i didn't test, just put it everywhere it might be needed. Seems that when you update to Windows 10 from Win7 you will likely loose the copy of libusb0.dll that you might have had.

SDRuno is fast becoming my favourite Windows SDR application.

Next up is my airspy mini and then perhaps a try at a Softrock.

Perhaps there will be another release before too long where will be able to put th EXTIOxxxx.DLL's in the SDRuno folder rather than the "my documents" folder.

SDRuno just keeps getting better.

Airspy will be a no go for now as it will not sample slower than 2.5mps and you need the extio_airspy_cmake_mgw version of the dll as the ExtIO_AirSpy version does not support all the hooks SDRuno requires. It will at least loads the cmake version.
So for now extio usage is a bit of a drag.

I though SDRuno might "Look" for extio files in the folder where you put the .s1b file. It doesn't.

Thank you for that Dave.

Ah, that is too bad. Hopefully that will be addressed before too long. For now I will just have to keep SDR# around for the Airspy. They (airspy) do have some interesting pieces of software for which there are no equivalents for the SDRPlay such as the wideband spectrum scanner.
