Using two coherent RSP2's

Post by js9013 » Wed May 22, 2019 4:41 pm

Hello,

I have been digging around the RSP2 receiver for a while now and am trying to determine if it will fit a project I have in mind. I am hoping to build a basic passive radar system using hobbyist equipment and 4 antennas (3 for detecting reflections, 1 for sidelobe cancellation from source). Obviously, all 4 of these receivers need to be coherent with each other for this use case.

I am having a difficult time determining whether two RSP2's can be configured in a way to ensure their receivers are all coherent. I saw an older post on this forum from a user who attempted to do so who determined that it was not possible, even using the external reference clock source. However, SDRPlay's promotional material and other older forum posts do seem to imply that it is doable.

Can anyone who has attempted to set up a coherent system shed some light on if this is possible, or perhaps someone more familiar with the RSP2 workings?

Thank you!
Jon

Also, I was wondering if it is not possible, whether the channels within a single box are coherent?

Being aware of all material published by Sdrplay on the diversity issue, in my opinion the two units within a single RSPduo are coherent, as intended for your work, but these two will NOT be coherent with the other two receivers of another RSPduo, even if you use the same reference oscillator signal.
