SDRConsole and SDRplay

Post by Paul » Wed Jun 28, 2017 6:17 pm

Usins SDRplay in SDRConsole: Direct input of frequency via keyboard tunes receiver to a frequency several khz from that input by keyboard.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Does anyone know how to correct this feature?

Is the frequency offset always the same, regardless of the frequency you enter (ie LF or VHF)? Or does the offset get worse the higher the frequency?

Hi Andy
Seems to be sort of consistent - exemplified by these examples:
Input: 125.550 output: 125.500
Input: 5.505 output: 5.500
Input: 0.995 output: 990.000
Input:175.250 output: 125.200
In the panel on the rhs where the input "box" appears the frequency appears correctly, but the actual tuned frequency is offset/truncated as above.
There may be a simple and sensible explanation, but I'm not aware of it.
Thanks for your previous response.

Ah. The error at VHF seems to be about 50 KHz, but at low frequencies it is 5 KHz. This suggests an error in the reference oscillator, but it's a much bigger error than we normally see, and probably way beyond the calibration adjustment.
I'm assuming you've tried a different program such as SDRUno or HDSDR?

The resultant frequencies always being rounded to the nearest 0.1 looks suspicious to me. I don't use SDRConsole, however SDRUno has a feature that defines the frequency tuning step and the output frequency will snap to the nearest frequency with respect to the tuning step size. I wonder if SDRC has a similar feature and if that's what's happening in your examples. If so, it should be simple to change the step size to something less than the resolution you're trying to achieve.
