SDRplay and Software Mute?
SDRplay and Software Mute?
I have a RSP1a and I want to use it in conjunction with the transmitter in my Icom IC-7000. I also have the MFJ1708 for antenna switching and receiver input grounding. I have Omnirig and have it interfaced between the IC-7000 and SDRuno. My question is can any of the SDR software packages (SDRuno, HDSDR, SDR Console) be induced to automatically mute the SDR receiver during transmit?
Thanks

Answer: I am guilty of not reading the manual thoroughly. The SDRuno manual clearly states that (when connected through OmniRig to a compatible transceiver) the program will RF mute when transmit is initiated from the software end or from the transmitter hardware end.
Thanks

Re: SDRplay and Software Mute?
When using any rig with the RSP you want to use the rigs audio and not the SDR.
SDRuno will automatically mute the AF when you key up but I usually just leave the PC speakers off completely when using my rig with the RSP.

Mike, I don't understand your comment. You said one should use the "rig" audio not the SDR. For receiving, I would want to use the RSP1a entirely, as I think it has better receive options. My IC-7000 receiver is good, but I believe the RSP1a is better.

Yes the SDR will have better audio but you will have a delay from IQ processing when you use the SDRs audio tethered to a rig.

Re: SDRplay and Software Mute?
OK Mike, thanks for the reply. I would think that the signal software delay for SDRuno would be comparable to other SDRs that have transmit capability (OpenHPSDR comes to mind). Therefore, not too excessive (at least for SSB). Is it more than .25-.5 seconds? Thanks.

For rag chewing using the SDR audio is fine but when you chase DX and want to work a contest DX station during a pileup they will QRZ very fast.
