New user to SDR

I used to be avid SWL'er in the 70,s and wonder if there has been a interface written that would resemble the Radio control panel with all the dials and meter instead of looking at the Frequency scale and band width, really little over whelming to look at all the detail, just a simple interface to move up and down the frequency and change bands and most the site lists and books list the frequency in MHz instead of KHz, I know just add some zeros, but never the less. I played with a web SDR
