A couple of new user questions

Post by VE3TMT » Tue Mar 27, 2018 12:36 pm

Just picked up the RSP1A to replace my cheap $10 USB dongle that I have been using with HDSDR as a panadapter on my 756PROIII.

I also picked up the new Raspberry Pi 3B+ kit to use as a stand alone with the RSP1A because HDSDR was bogging down my main computer.

I've downloaded the Pi3 image file but not yet put it on the SD card. I'd like to try SDRUno instead of HDSDR.

Can someone please step my through the process.

Thank you,
Max

Hi, I've no experience with the Raspberry Pi but I do wonder why HDSDR was bogging your computer as it is one of the most processor efficient programs available and works well on minimal computers.....

To be more specific, HDSDR would run about 40-50% cpu usage, but running other programs at the same time, ie MixW and such maxxed it out to 100%.

Running HDSDR alone was fine. So I'm going to use the Pi for either HDSDR or SDRUno.

Neither will run on a Pi, sadly they are both exclusively Windows apps.

I say sadly because imho Windows in particular and MacOS (catching up fast) have become ever more burdensome and restricted.

The maintainability, usability and footprint pendulum has swung so far into negative territory I long for developers and hobbyists to move wholesale over to Linux.

Okay, so I downloaded the latest Raspberry Pi image (RPI 3 IMAGE – V0.2 (26TH NOV 2017)) from the downloads section, and put the image file on the SD card. When I boot up, it is stuck on the famous rainbow screen with lightning bolt. From what I have read, it is due to an old version of a boot file or something? The suggested fix is to download a new copy of NOOBS or Raspian.

Where can I find an image file that works?

Thanks,
Max

I assume you have a Rasperry Pi 3 B+

We have an image that is in testing at the moment for the Raspberry Pi 3 B+, if you would like to beta test it, send me an email to software@sdrplay.com

Best regards,
