Short Wave listeners - aid to propagation - when, where does it happen?

Post by vk7jj » Wed Apr 11, 2018 12:50 am

Potential and current SDRPlay users have asked on the forum wether they are likely to be able to receive a particular signal given it's distance from where they live.

A while back I referred one such question to http://wsprnet.org/drupal/wsprnet/map so they could look on the map and at the table information on other pages on that site, to see what bands were open, the times they were open, and the distance between "hops" on different frequencies.

After having a good look at the site it seemed pretty poorly setup to answer those questions because of the random colour of spot lines and the lack of other tools.

So I built a scraper. Hopefully it helps better answer those questions.

Because it does scrape their site it will stop working if they change the page layout of either of their two database pages, meanwhile its a bit of fun.

There is a sort of help via notes in the User config menu. Forgive the warts and flaws it's only fun, non-serious-non-commercial hobby stuff.

Cheers, Phil VK7JJ

PS. It works best for general browsing if you choose "small dots" and "old database" from the User menu

I tried to edit the above post to add that bit but couldn't save the edits because of a prompt I don't understand, it happened once before
