WEATHERFAX AND THE RSP DUO RECEIVER - COMPARISON OF OTHER RECEPTION/DECODING METHODS

1. Enclosed below meteochart received with the old SONY WORLDBAND RECEIVER ICF-SW77. Antenna used: 135m Beverage and frequency was 3855 KHz (better reception in night time). Quality is good, but receiver tuning requires some experience.

2. The HF Weatherfax application can be readily downloaded (at a cost of EUR 4.99) to an Android tablet or phone and it decodes Meteofax. The tablet or phone is kept near the PC and the sound coming from the PC's loudspeaker is taken up by the tablet's microphone and the chart is printed out on the screen. I had my doubts about the tablet picking up extraneous background noises, but in effect this app works quite well.

I tried using a receiver the other night also, It seemed to do well, there were a couple of glitches. Of course none of this explains the smearing of the imagery that you encountered. I can't envision a performance issue being the cause.

Fantastic! Very good result, Mike.

I have been looking carefully into the internal audio connection between SDRuno output and SeaTTY/Fldigi input and I discovered that in reality output from the speakers is picked up by the laptop microphone so the "smearing" must be provoked by an echo between the two signals, direct and echoed. Unfortunately, if I disable the microphone, the connection to the Wefax software disappears.

I installed VAC, but until now I have been unable to get the audio from SDRuno to the Wefax sofware. I hear the "ciao!" all right, SeaTTY hears "ciao!" as well, but no way that SeaTTY hears the audio from SDRuno output. I can get the SDRuno output to connect to Cable 1 or Cable 2, I can see SeaTTY connected to one of the cables, but no signal goes thru, only the "ciao!". The level indicators of the VAC cables also do not show any audio from SDRuno going thru.It is like being a step away from the solution, but not getting there.

Any ideas? Shall do more work tomorrow.

I've encountered this before. the feature you need is disabled (it's the default setting for windows). You need to enable it here:

First shut down SDRUno and fldigi if they are running. I've had SDRUno crash while changing audio settings. Is should not do this but it does.
Right click on the speaker icon, select recording devices.

Right click in the white area of the window (above). A selection box should appear showing two possible selections: 'Show Disconnected Devices' and 'Show Disabled Devices', Select both boxes, then Rec.Playback should appear as disabled in the above window. Select it, then select 'Properties'. In the properties window under 'Device Usage' change the setting from disabled to enabled - Click 'OK'

This is from another PC but It should be similar to this:

Rec, Playback and Stereo Mix perform the same function.
After making these changes restart the computer

You then should be able to adjust your record levels in the Levels Tab, In the Enhancements tab select 'Disable all Sound Effects'.
In fldigi select Rec. Playback as the capture source.

Hi Mike, thanks for your kind assistance. Unfortunately I do not have the "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC", perhaps my sound card is not suitable. I am enclosing PC screens of the Sound windows without and with VAC.

Hi Mike, I finally made it using VAC. Will post details later. Now that it works, of course propagation is down this morning.

Cheers,
