The strongest on air signal I ever received

Post by glovisol » Tue Feb 12, 2019 6:43 pm

This is the strongest it came into my receiver ever: Radio China International on 7360 KHz from Cerrik in the Balkans. We are talking about -29.9 dBm + 3 dB insertion loss on the balun transformer makes -26.9 dBm coming out of my Beverage!

A little more and could burn the guts out of my RSPduo....

That's massive! Why was it that strong do you think, Glovisol?

Hi EnriqueLin

Radio China International broadcasts in various languages during the 24 hours and according to schedule is sometimes off air. This signal strength was taken yesterday, Feb. 12, 2019, at 19:30 GMT (20:30 local time). I shall tune it in again this evening to check on field strength. This station is in Cerrik, approx. 1500 km from my antenna and is probably radiating an ERP (TX power + antenna gain) in the order of 800 / 1000 KW, but I shall attempt to compute it later on.

This evening (13.2.19 @ 19:00 GMT) Radio China International is coming in even stronger at -27.4 dBm+ 3 dB = -24.4 dBm, but at a different frequency: 7.285 KHz. My poor RSP duo must have the gain at minimum setting and even with this setting it is on the brink of overloading! Must get the attenuators back....
