FLDIGI ? Digital Modes ?

Post by Robert11 » Tue May 07, 2019 1:42 pm

Hello,

Well, I downloaded the newest version of Multipsk that meshes, directly, with the RSP. (have an RSP-2)
Wow !
Don't like to admit it, but the interface is like a nightmare, and way beyond
anything i could ever work with and feel comfortable with.

MixW, according to some reviews is not worth the $, hasn't been updated in..., etc.

Was wondering about FLDIGI:
Will it mesh, well, with an RSP-2 ?
Thoughts on ?

Would really like to start playing around with digital modes, but am not
sure which program.

Would have to be, hopefully, reasonably straightforward, etc., and would like it to talk to a RSP-2
directly, without any intermediate program or virtual audio cable. (but this is not a "firm" requirement)

FLDIGI ?
Others ?

As always, appreciate the help and suggestions, very much,

Thanks,
Bob

For FLdigi to talk with SDRuno directly you will need to download and install a 3rd party com port splitter.

Next step is setting FLdigi rig setting as a Kenwood TS480, This allows FLdigi to control SDRuno.

Personally I prefer MultiPSK because it provides more decoding modes than FLdigi

Hi

Thanks for info. and suggestions.

Will try using Multipsk some more, but the interface is really rough tough to understand,
and use, at least for me.

But will try again.
Would really like to use the program, if practical. Have an RSP-2

BTW: any idea on their screen(s) how to switch between the HiZ input and ANT A input ?
Couldn't see any box for doing it.

And:
How do you change the freq that you want to tune too ?
If I put the cursor on the small box that apparently has the freq., the mouse wheel only
seems to let me change the very lowest order digits. Can't seem to change the higher order ones like
the high MHz ?

Sometimes when I open it up I get an error msg that says it can't run due to the sound card being used by
another application. Other times it does seem to open up, but I'm not sure how well, if at all, it is functioning.
Do get the waterfall (when it does open up) though. Do I have to fiddle with any of the sound card settings first ?
Any thoughts on this ?

Regards,
and thanks again for all the assistance,
Bob (Boston)

That part not I am not sure about. I always used MultiPSK and or FLdigi via Virtual Audio Cable and not direct control. Hopefully, others will chime in and lend advice.

Try following some of the video guides on using a virtual audio cable with FLDIGI and setting up comms ports:
https://youtu.be/1mRoHrsP9Ek
https://youtu.be/ZF86cK5vukY
https://youtu.be/dZg7puQ9Ajk

We are improving our indexing in our Apps catalogue which will allow you to search for SDRplay-specific help on a growing number of topics: https://www.sdrplay.com/apps-catalogue/

Using the above, try searching for say "VAC" (virtual audio cable) or "COM" and so on rather than searching through all the videos on our 2 YouTube channels: https://www.youtube.com/c/SDRplayRSP and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFqL7r ... B0QESJLcqw

There are lots of other digital decoding software packages, some of which are demo'ed on videos in the SDRPlay website. Check out section 5 of

https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.p ... teur_Radio

and this article from the RadioReference Digital Decoding is all about decoding software...

https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.p ... e_Decoders

Once you have your software working, you will need decodeable targets. This article is also from the Digital Decoding FAQ...

https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.p ... _New_Setup

And finally there's no better place for up to the minute logs than the UDXF reflector on groups.io. Their web page is...

http://www.udxf.nl/index.html

and you can subscribe at the bottom link...Mike
