Spectrum analyzer Vs. SDRuno. What’s the primary differences?

Post by jrodh » Fri May 31, 2019 3:47 am

I'm just wondering if anyone can explain what the difference is between the spectrum analyzer software and the normal operation of SDRuno.

It seems to me that they are both performing an FFT, right? What can I do with the spectrum analyzer that I cannot do under SDRuno? I'm certain there is a major difference, but I don't seem to see what it is.

Thanks,
Jared

Jared,

I think it is a useless and time consuming exercise to explain the hows and the whys. If you look here:

https://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewt ... 4&start=10

and here:

https://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewt ... 7&start=10

and here:

https://www.sdrplay.com/community/viewt ... 3&start=10

You will see the RECEIVER FUNCTION operating side by side with the SPECTRUM ANALYSER FUNCTION and you will quickly understand.

Hope this helps.

I haven't tried it yet. Generally speaking, through sweeping it allows you to view a much wider frequency range instead of being limited by the 10mhz bandwidth of the regular SDRuno software. And secondly, it looks to me like you can view 2 inputs at the same time. In those example links I'm assuming the yellow and white plots are both real time monitoring. Or possibly I'm wrong and one plot has been previously saved and plotted on the screen along with the real time readout. I'm not sure.

Spectrum Analyzer is primarily test and measurement software. It's particularly helpful in the characterization and design of RF filters.
