Hello to the group,
I need advice about how to connect the RSP to a friend's FT5000 to use as a panadapter

Personally I've connected my RSP to my FTdx3000 via the RXOUT rca plug on the back like this:

The question is:
Can I do the same with my friend's FT5000 by connecting the RSP like this:

Thanks in advance !

You can easily connect it to the IF OUT port. Then in the software (HDSDR, SDR-Radio Console) select IF and enter the IF frequency of 9MHz.

Thanks harry,
I know this method but , in other words ...... do the two plugs ( rca on the 3000 and bnc on the 5000) has the same functions?
Any opinion?
Thanks, Emanuel

Hello again,
I had a feedback from a user on the Facebook Group ......

Is it ok to connect the RSP to the BNC plug named OUT on the rear panel of the Yaesu FT 5000
Problem solved, thanks.

I got this to work using HDSDR. Google "Omni-Rig" or download here , which bridged my interface between the HDSDR and the FTDX-5000. Omni-Rig is a simple one box configuration setting your COM port# and baudrate. You can then set this same information (COM & baud) within HDSDR to connect and listen to. I used the IF Out of the FTdx5000 to the SDRPlay receiver. IF Amp bandwidth was set to 8 Mhz within the "ExtIO" setting and now everything is working as expected.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with SDR-Radio Console where I can also set the IF bandwidth to 8Mhz.

Thanks and 73s

There is a Span button that allows you to choose the bandwidth displayed but the maximum you can get this way is 5 MHz. To set the visible bandwidth in SDRConsole to 8 MHz you have to drag the edges of the red zone on the bottom frequency bar to widen it out.

I just wish I could find a way to keep the frequency centred in the main waterfall display when tuning in SDRConsole

when you select radio at startup, select 8Mhz as the sample rate... :)

Thanks Paul!

Little update about this post.............

Yesterday we have configured the RSP to work as a panadapter with my friend's FT5000

In order to obtain this, without using the IF OUT , we placed a bnc-tee on the RX ANT OUT on the rear panel of the rig
The 2 exit of this tee are connected like this:
- one goes to the RSP through a bnc-sma cable
- the other goes to the RX ANT IN of the FT5000 through a bnc-uhf male cable

In this way , by pressing the RX-ANT button on the front panel , you can share the RF signal between the FT5000 and the RSP

The complete setup looks like this, sorry for my ability with Paint

I cannot wrap my head around the logic to this method. Can you explain why you use the T and not simply use the IFR out?
Thanks
