Conect a TS590S

Post by EA2HW » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:59 pm

Good evening to all!

I am a very old OM licenced in 1967, I like the CW and I have a TS590S as unique rig. I just purchased a SDRplay for use as panadapter. I url=http://crystalradio.us/projects/ts-590s-rx-mod.htm]make the mod[/url] for connect a output in to the RX jumper CN101 after the relay antenna.

I have some dubts:

- What or how to disable SDRplay when transmitting the TS590S?.
- SDRplay can make RFI to the TS590S receiver?
- There is a better solution for connecting the TS590S without recourse to surgery?

There is a better solution for connecting the TS590S without recourse to surgery?

The "crystal radio mod" works very well. The CN101 is in the receive path and on the receive side of the K101 receive/transmit relay so there should be plenty of protection. I've been using this mod for over a year with a FunCube Pro Plus dongle, Afedri SDR-Net and now the SDRplay. No problems and no need for a buffer amp.

The only alternative without doing surgery to the rig is to use the RX ANT port. However, you will need to purchase a reliable TX/RX switch (e.g., Elad or DXengineering), splitter and cables. Very simple to do, but adds lot of clutter. There is plenty of info online how to do this.

Many thanks Harry, just now I be sure. It only remains how to control the TS590S from the same screen as the RX.

Enio,

This is what I did with my TS-590S and SDRplay to get "point-and-click" tuning and to have the 590S and software follow each other.

First, I use the following software:

(a) Ham Radio Deluxe: this provides rig control of the TS-590S as well as logging, DXcluster and more. Not necessary and some other logging and rig control programs work fine (e.g., DXlabs).

(b) HDSDR or sometimes SDR-Radio Console

Second, I need a way to have Ham Radio Deluxe and HDSDR or SDR-Radio Console share the TS-590S' USB port. Sharing of the USB port is critical so the software applications have a way to exchange information (band, mode, frequency, etc.) To do this:

(a) I downloaded and installed a Virtual Serial Port Emulator (VSPE) from Eterlogics. This software offers various virtual serial port configurations. You want to select the SPLITTER. You are taking the real USB COM port from the TS-590S and splitting it so the software applications can access it.

(b) In my case my real USB COM port is #18. With the VSPE Splitter my virtual COM Port is #19.

Third, you need a utility to bridge the application software with the TS-590S and each other. HDSDR and SDR-Radio Console take advantage of a free utility called OmniRig. Download OmniRig and configure it per your TS-590S.

In my situation:

(a) TS-590S has USB COM Port #18, but virtual port #19
(b) OmniRig is configured to use the same baud rate, stop bit, etc. as the TS-590S, but use COM 19 instead.
(c) Ham Radio Deluxe is configured to use COM 19.
(d) Once the rig, Ham Radio Delxue and OmniRig are up and running then start HDSDR or SDR-Radio and configure them to access OmniRig.
(e) Note that OmniRig only needs to be configured once and runs in the background.

Works fine.

Mny thanks Harry, The SDRplay came yesterday. The first step was easy, SDRplay works with HDSDR connected to the RX antenna TS590S, according to the Crystal Radio Group mod. The ExtIO_SDRplay.dll run OK in the HDSDR.

I have already installed the HRD and OmniRig, We just need to create the port and connect applications.

See you in the bands, CW, 73 Enio, EA2HW

Enio,

If you are connected to the RX ANT then you will need a TX/RX switch.

If you did the crystal radio mod then no switch is needed.
