RSP1A and software question

Post by ggloria » Mon May 21, 2018 2:20 pm

I am looking for some informations before buying this product. I need to acquire the AIS signal, which is close to 162 MHz, so I was wondering if the software would allow me to do it. Looking at the datasheet I am assuming the device downconverts the input signal to an intermediate frequency and then feeds it to the ADC. Do I have the option to select a certain portion of the spectrum and save the sampled signal on my PC directly by software (i.e. SDRuno) or would I need to extract it in some other way?

Hello ggloria,
Yes, you should have no problem in doing this. You can use SDRuno to record selected parts of the spectrum to the HDD of your PC or you can pipe the signal via a virtual audio codec to decoding software such as MultiPSK for real-time decoding.

Thanks. Would the recorded spectrum be in baseband? Or is it downconverted to an intermediate frequency?

The recorded spectrum is in I/Q baseband format, but it is of the full spectrum that was displayed when recorded. You will need to replay the files in SDRuno and select the signals that you are interested. You will not be able to replay the signals in something like Windows Media Player.

Thank you for your time. Last question, Do the RSP1A mount the MSi001 chip (tuner) and the MSi2500 chip ( ADC)? I found specific informations on the RSP2 webpage, but I couldn't find the eame for the RSP1A version.

Yes, the RSP1A also uses the Mirics chipset. However, the chipset is configured in a slightly different way and the RSP1A has a completely re-designed RF front-end (RF pre-selector, LNA and Gain control).

Do you know what kind of format the software use when storing the spectrum file?
