zinwell sup2400 down converter
zinwell sup2400 down converter
An article shows how to modify the sup-2400 to allow SDRs to receive signals above 2GHz.
I can't find specs on the unit and am wondering if the 100mA bias-tee of the RSP1a is adequate.
(Haven't received my RSP1a yet, jsut want to be ready).
thanks!

The sup-2400 wants 12vdc, but the internal 7805 regulator can be bypassed to allow 5vdc operation. I may experiment in the coming weeks. Love my RSP1A!

Re: zinwell sup2400 down converter
I'm very keen to have a go at one of those as well. Was going to order one already done from kd0cq, but it seems he has run into unfortunate difficulties and won't be selling any more units.
I look forward to seeing how you got on!!!

Re: zinwell sup2400 down converter
IT was quite easy to modify. I used one of those inexpensive USB powered soldering irons, which has a very small tip (and comes with some very fine gauge solder). There is one component that needed a hotter iron to remove, adjacent the resonator (blue blob). I like wire-wrap wire for jumpers as the hot iron will melt thru insulation, handy for multi-point jumpering. The price is low enough to justify spare(s) to cover my oopses.

Here's the mod article. Unfortunately, modified units are NOT for sale any more.
