SDRplay as panadapter driven from i.f. output?

Post by n1eu » Thu Dec 10, 2015 3:01 pm

Is there any software out there that allows SDRplay to interface to an amateur hf transceiver and take the 9MHz i.f. output as signal source, displaying a panadapter with frequency displayed as on the transceiver (instead of relative to 9MHz)?

Thanks,

In SDR-Console using the external radio, you can set the offset, so offset of 9mhz and you are good to go, using the same on my Ftdx3000's IF out...

Thanks Paul!

Does that software provide a CAT connection to the radio and allow you to click on the panadapter and cause the radio to QSY?

You can do the same with HDSDR. I believe there is an option titled "Front-end Configuration". With that option you can select either antenna or IF and with the IF selection you can enter the IF frequency as well as offsets for each mode. Works just fine.

For the panadapter y think (my personal opinion) HDSDR its much better. Two things, audio options and cat suport count for my.Over two years of using both whith my old ft1000 mp,the Sdr console still mising the direct output IQ(for skimer use), and CAT same time hangouts, both work whith omnirig. But the sdrConsole seems to have better dsp, mach polished look, and have better suport(tnx Simon),in the past two years hdsdr don't have any upgrade.

Yes Barry,

SDR-Console in the external radio will talk to omnirig, which will control the radio.... HDSDR will also do the same...

Here's what I did with my Icom R72 receiver and SDRPlay.

For the Yaesu FT1k and any other radio with RX IN/OUT connectors. No IF tapping, no soldering required.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=StcIIDOySqg.

Yes, that is a great option. However, one needs to be certain there is sufficient isolation on the RX IN / RX OUT ports when transmitting. With some rigs this is NOT the case. In addition to checking the rig's specs it may pay to purchase an RF limiter such as the DXengineering DXE-RG-5000 for added protection.
