Use as Panadapter on a K1 Elecraft?
Use as Panadapter on a K1 Elecraft?
Has anyone here tapped into the I.F. of a K1 to attach an SDR for use as a Panadapter? If so, any hints or pointers?
Thank you,

Hi,
You might like to look at this web page http://g4hup.com/PAT.htm
Dave provides a neat little buffer board to interface to SDRs. I got one recently in order to tap off the 1st IF of a Lowe HF-225 receiver. I noted from the web page that he does a board suitable for the Elecraft K1, K2. The boards are different because there is a low-pass-filter on the output. Looking at the Elecraft circuit diagram I would suggest tapping off of pin 4 of the SA602 receive mixer.
You could simply try tapping off of that pin with a low value capacitor - but read have a look at the reference articles embedded in this page. I found it worked quite well with an RTL-dongle but the SDPPlay has the much better dynamic range.
I've only tested phase one - taking a tap from the 1st If - phase 2 is to take the output from before the 1st mixer and use the Lowe HF225 as a super-duper front end with it's more comprehensive set of band-pass filters.
