Help - Spikes every 10KHz

Post by glabelle » Fri Apr 15, 2016 2:16 am

I'm new to SDRPlay, but not SDRs. I'm using HDSDR on WIn 7. On 80M ham band, I get spikes that are 20db above the noise every 10KHz. Anyone know what this is and how to eliminate them?

Thanks, George

Hello George,
This sounds like electrical interference from either your PC, a switched mode power supply, or possibly even LED lights. If you haven't already done so, try adding ferrites to both ends of your USB cable. If using a coax feed from your antenna add a clip on ferrite to your coax cable as close to the RSP as possible. If these don't help, you need to identify the source of interference. If using a laptop, try running on batteries to see if it is your laptop supply. Try then selectively turning off everything that you don't need (phone chargers, plasma TVs etc) until you identify the source of interference.

Sincerely
