Use of SDRPlay as RFI Sniffer

I used my SDRPlay to try to find some 2M band RFI recently. The RFI source was so strong it was heard using a scanner with the antenna removed, but the SDRPlay did not display the noise. Other signals were received with no problem.
The current version of SDRConsole software is being used. I have read on some blogs that the SDRPlay and/or SDR software may be optimized to remove RFI noise. Normally this would be a good thing, but not in this particular application. Is this true, and does anyone have any recommendations to solve this issue?
