EXTIO plugin 3.9 decimation of the sample rate?

I would be most grateful for an explanation of the usefulness of "Decimation of the Sample Rate".

For example, what is the difference between setting a 8MHz Sample Rate with a "2" decimation -vs- simply setting a 4MHz Sample Rate?

Thanks very much!

Decimation of the sample rate will improve the noise performance, but it requires the higher sample rate and more CPU to process, so it may not be suitable or required for certain scenarios. That's why it's useful to be able to either specify a 4MHz sample rate or 8MHz with a decimation of 2.

For very low IF bandwidth cases, you can apply a much higher decimation value with a high sample rate which should improve the noise performance even further.

You just need to remember that the final sample rate needs to be equal or greater than the IF bandwidth selected.

Hope that helps,
