The active mini-whip coax is grounded at the antenna end via a ground-spike and via it's power adapter to the common in-house dedicated earth.
Also, I must confess that on further checking there seems to be little CONSISTENT difference in signal quality between the two power supplies, but the use of a nearby television does have a very noticeable, but variable effect, which has confused the issue.
Interestingly perhaps, this came as a surprise because this same device had previously caused no problems.
