Recommended cable

Post by SJG1976 » Sun Oct 04, 2015 1:09 pm

What is the recommended cable and socket to connect to the sdrplay.

At the moment i have a cobbled together sma to mix to tv socket.

Then off to a 75ohm cable to a homemade dipole.

I'm sure less joins and better connections would improve this greatly.

Mainly been using it for Noaa and MOTOR M2 Reception.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I assume your 75 ohm cable is RG-6??? If so, pretty hard to beat RG-6 for cost/perfomance. Don't worry about a couple of adapters to go from "F" to SMA you won't even notice the loss. Also, I wouldn't worry about the 75 ohm cable either as 75 ohm cable to 50 ohm antenna connector on the SDRplay = 1.5:1 SWR which = only 4% signal loss.

I use quad shield RG-6 for all sorts of things RX related.

Thanks for the Information.

I'm using BELDEN 1694A.00153 cable, as the main feed.
I'm guessing this is OK?

Yep - that's good stuff. Just make sure you get the F connectors that fit that RG-6 - not RG-59 size.
