LNR Precision Par EndFedZ EF-SWL Antenna

Post by Whitecup » Mon Feb 04, 2019 1:41 pm

I have the RSP2pro and would like to attach the LNR Precision Par EndFedZ EF-SWL antenna to the HIZ port.
This antenna has a built in 9-1 balun already and attaches to a PL-259 connector.
Any suggestions?

Thank you

Here are the types of connections I have found on the web.
So $200 for the SDRplay $100 for the antenna $30 for USB cable... all quality products and now I have to Jury rig a whip axx connection to the SDRplay?

It just doesn't sit right with me and I hold a extra class license and enjoy experimenting.

I will most likely get this and cut of the end off I don't need and attach it like picture 1 and 4

G'day whitecup, I would suggest that you attach the ant. to input A via an adapter first. The balun in the EndFed is there to reduce the impedance to a low level. Otherwise wire up a so239 socket to the HiZ input and compare results. Good SDRing Max vk2tti.

OK, I present a experimental prototype connection solution. Some rummaging in the radio parts box revealed 12 gauge solid and stranded copper wire. Will the connection work? how well? we shall see.

12ga solid wire, thinner 14 ga probably better

12 ga stranded wire only used a small amount

flipped unit over to match the + with the P

This will be connected to the LNR Precision Par EndFedZ EF-SWL Antenna which has a 9 to 1 balun already

Testing results in the next few days.

Thanks

Changed from solid 12ga to 16awg stranded speaker wire fit in holes better and might have better connection. CHECK that 16awg would not hold in the A/V unit. Used 6 strands twisted together from the 12 ga holds much better

Installing antenna over the next few days, as always the most time consuming part.

Thanks

Hi Whitecup, please consider that for best results and for input protection the balanced input must be fed thru a low capacitance toroid transformer, there are very many examples in as many threads in this Forum.

Hope this helps,

Thank you glovisol.

I was hoping the wideband 9:1 transformer wound on a binocular core would address this.

Just pulled out the Jackite Fiberglass Telescoping Kite Pole for the antenna, it will be a sloper. I collapsed the top 3 sections and tape them so it doesnt break. So the top is at about 25ft. The other end will be attached to the house. Then I have to ground it.

Ok, As a test fit, I threw the antenna up about 10ft in a tree , so the antenna is horizontal about 5 ft off the ground.
No ground yet.
Connection prototype is holding well.

Added this cable and have the SDRplay in another room about 20ft away, works well
