Dedicated gnuradio block

Instead of using the wrapper around the gr-osmocom block that supports some, but not all, of the features of the SDRplay API, has anyone looked into creating a dedicated gnuradio block implementation of the API? I've not gotten far enough into gnuradio to write blocks, but supposedly it isn't that difficult. It should be made easier by the fact that the library implementing the API is already provided.
