Just to let you know SDRplay have very kindly offered to host the software in their downloads section.
Waiting patiently...

Hi All

Just to let you know, Andy and Simon at SDRplay are currently giving the analyser a thorough test, including finding out what Windows platforms may have problems running it, and to make sure it works with all SDRplay products. They have already given me some invaluable feedback. In response to their comments and suggestions, the code underwent a few minor tweaks last night, and is about to be sent back to them.

Once that's done, Andy has very kindly offered to make the install package up, and it will then available in the downloads section of this site. I guess it's a case of watch this space, I don't think it will be much longer unless they find a major problem with it.

Thanks for all your patience everyone.

Hello.

Great job, And I am positive it will be very useful.
My request is related to sweep speed: There are some short duration elusive signals in the spectrum, mainly HF, so it will be desirable to have a very high speed sweeping mode even ignoring amplitude precision.

This coudl be a great tool to look for FFHH signals.

Thanks a lot for your work.
Best regards
ANgazu.

Would it support reduced dynamic resolution as trade off for fast real time multi 10Mhz spectrum views, would it be possible to view 500Mhz sweep over say 5 seconds ?

Sweeps of 10MHz and less are pretty well carried out in real time, although there is some speed penalty at very narrow sweep widths due to having to run up to 262144 bins in the Fourier transform to achieve the narrow bandwidth resolutions needed. For example, a sweep width of 1KHZ, giving a spectral resolution of 1.91Hz per bin gives around three to four sweeps per second. Dropping the resolution back to 3.81Hz per bin gives around 7 sweeps per second.

At the other end of the sweep range, bin resolution is decreased considerably, and it's possible to grab a 5 or 10MHZ chunk of spectrum at a time. The only factor affecting speed then becomes the time taken for the RSP to settle between large frequency changes. The current sweep system can take several seconds to complete a sweep of 500MHz.

In either case, amplitude precision is not an issue. There is a peak capture facility so short duration signals will be captured and held. There are some issues with the current sweep system and they are being addressed, but will not be implemented in the first alpha release. The various issues will be covered in some depth in the release notes.

Final testing by Andy and Simon at SDRplay is more or less completed now, with no major problems being found. Andy has already made up an install package. It just remains for me to make sure the analyser can detect and run an RSPduo. That will hopefully happen over the weekend, subject to DHL delivery. Andy is away at the Friedrichshafen ham radio convention in Germany and will be back early next week. He just has to compile the final install package then it will be ready for release.

Hi Simon

Yes, there is progress. Last night, Andy sent me the completed installation package for a final test. Everything went well so there is nothing more to do. It's now just a matter of waiting for SDRplay to make the analyser available in the downloads section. I have no idea how long that will be. I guess it's very much a case now of watch this space, but I don't think it will be long.

I just checked and the Alpha has appeared in the downloads section of the SDRPlay website. Thank you! :-)

Excellent news! My noise source and SWR bridge are on their highspeed rowboat from China. Steve will probably have the full release by the time they get here. :-)
