Can I run SDRPlay on Raspberry pi 3 b+ without an image?

Post by KE2KB » Tue Aug 07, 2018 10:58 pm

Hi;
I just set up my first Raspberry pi 3 b+. I am playing with and learning about it.
At this point, I don't want to dedicate my pi as an SDR, but would like to run my SDRPlay on it anyway.
Is there a way I can do this - by installing the drivers and an SDR program, but without creating a dedicated OS for the SDR?

On the SDRPlay website in downloads, I find the image file as well as drivers, but no SDR program.
Is there something else that I can use, assuming I would first install the SDRPlay drivers?

Thanks for your help

I used an Rpi3 to install the driver and then wrote my own C program to use the sampled data.
Therefore I *know* you can install the driver and I can't imagine why any other app that is designed to work with the driver could not be installed as well.
The SDRPlay website has the non-windows workflow in the Downloads/Documentation section. It talks about GNU radio and SoapySDR for the ARM32 operating systems if you want a step by step guide. If you know what you are doing then I'm sure you can take it from there.

Thanks Susan;
I'll see what I can do with that.
I'm wondering whether the Rpi has enough computing power to perform reasonably well as an SDR, but I want to try it out nonetheless.
I would also like to run a streaming app, like SoundWire, to stream audio from my radio to my phone for listening purposes. I might also try to do FT8 on the Rpi.

I have CUBICSDR/SDRPlay running on a RPi3 so on a b+ it should be better.
Its a bit jumpy and slow to respond but it does run.

Following is slightly off theme apologies.

Having BIG problems getting CQRLog V2.4 running on RPi had an earlier version running OK.
Won't go into details here but a lot of discussion on the CQRLog website.

Also having issues getting WSJT-X v1.9.1 (WSPR) working software installs and runs OK but having issues with
FT 817 and/or Signalink. It might NOT be an RPi issue as people have WSJT-X running OK on RPi's.
