Impact of USB cable shield on noise

Post by Sasan » Tue Nov 17, 2015 8:44 am

Hi
Here's the results of a very simple experiment I did:
I chose two USB cables to compare (images are attached)
A 0.5 meter unshielded (blue one)
A 1.5 meter shielded (the other one)
Then I tuned to a local FM station. You can see the effect of shield on the noise. The picture with lots of noise (with RED waterfall) is for the blue cable.
All the parameters in this test were equal and unchanged.

Yes a couple of RF Chokes will do wonders for anything that receive or make noise. Your never going to get rid of EMI or RFI but it helps. I am over the top but if we can find a product that stops noise from your electrical outlets. In our world we are really building a Music Studio. Hardware like Icom R-75 or don't suffer so much but sdr equipment does.
