"Failed to locate API registry entry"

Post by tomboy » Thu Nov 19, 2015 6:42 pm

Hi,
a few weeks ago I bought the SDRplay RSP, and until now I didn't have the time to set it up.
But yesterday I went to the SDRplay website, downloaded the required items for using HDSDR, and installed them, as follows:

- installed Mirics SDR API and HW Driver
- plugged in the RSP
- installed HDSDR
- ran HDSDR to confirm that the EXTIO button was not active yet
- installed SDRplay EXTIO (into the HDSDR folder, as required)
- ran HDSDR again and got an error message to the effect of "SDR hardware not found"
- uninstalled everything, turned the computer off, and went to work

Today's installation:

- installed Mirics SDR API and HW Driver
- plugged in the RSP
- installed HDSDR
- ran HDSDR to confirm that the EXTIO button was not active yet
- installed SDRplay EXTIO (into the HDSDR folder, as required)
- ran HDSDR again and got an error message "Failed to locate API registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MiricsSDR\Tools Error 127"
- uninstalled everything, used CCleaner to clean the registry, rebooted, re-installed as above

Still getting the "failed to locate API registry entry" error.
My computer: ASUS X205TA with Windows 10

Would appreciate some words of wisdom concerning the installation problems.

Hi Tomboy,

Can you confirm whether you have a 64bit or 32bit OS?

Also, can you run the Mirics SDR Evaluation Tool that is installed with the API - does this appear?

Ideally I would like to see the registry entries - either I can talk you through how to do this or I'm happy to log in remotely via teamviewer and do this directly. Please let us know whether you would be ok with that. Easiest is to contact us at support@sdrplay.com

Best regards,

SDRplay Support

About 15 months ago... but what was the solution from Support? (No contact info for Tomboy...)

I am having the same problem now with the latest HDSDR v2.76 and EXTIO.ddl v3.9.1 in a Win-7 physical partition on my 64-bit i5 Acer laptop. I followed the exact same procedure as Tomboy before I came across his post.

The HDSDR/EXTIO.dll installed smoothly in a 64-bit Win-10 VirtualBox guest on an Intel i5 Nuc with Linux host.

I compared the registry reference on both machines and they are exactly the same... no /Tools item appears.

My temporary solution was to copy the working VB Win-10 guest across to the laptop's VB where it runs smoothly.

Still, I would like to elevate my "install trust factor" in the latest SDRplay software.

It's important to make sure the EXTIO dll is compatible with the API version. If you are not sure, then go to our downloads page and install either...

EXTIO PLUGINS - VERSION 1.0 (if you want to use your existing HDSDR installation)

or

HDSDR – VERSION 2.76 (which contains HDSDR, API and EXTIO all in one download)

Best regards,

Yes, thank you for your helpful reply!

Just before I saw it, I successfully tried DanubeBCL's suggestion from viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1917

I think the easiest way for you is to download the package "HDSDR – version 2.75 Beta3" from here and install it:
http://www.sdrplay.com/downloads/

Then you load HDSDR 276 from http://www.hdsdr.de and simply over-install it."

------------

Including HDSDR, API and EXTIO all in one download of HDSDR – VERSION 2.76 is the best solution and will save a lot of misunderstanding... I'm off and running with a fine SDR product...

http://www.sdrplay.com/downloads/ in the meantime already includes HDSDR 2.76.
