Suggested 6M and VHF gain settings?

Post by k3uk » Sun Mar 27, 2016 1:32 pm

I am almost totally a shortwave operator but decided today to use the SDRplay RSP to listen to amateur radio 2M or 6m DX openings. Since I am usually an HF antenna for this at the moment, I figured getting the best gain settings would be important for the RSP. Any suggestion? I'm used to having to crank down the gain when I use HF antennas with the RSP.

Possibly the simplest way is to run with LNA and then set AGC on. Then see what figure the IF gain ends up at. It obviously depends on what stations are about. For the FM broadcast band somewhere between - 45 and - 65 is 'normal'.
