sdrplay with Kubuntu 16.04

Post by DK7OB » Sun Apr 24, 2016 3:56 pm

Hello,

today I installed the new Kubuntu 16.04.

I installed the SDRplay API and rebuilt all my libraries and qgrx from source.
When I start gqrx, it finds the sdrPlay but during initialization the laptop locks hard, I have to press the power button for >5 seconds to recover.
Cubicsdr gives same result.

Anyone had success with Kubuntu/Ubuntu 16.04 and sdrplay?

Attached is a screen shot of gqrx start up up to the freeze.

Regards,
Wolf, DK7OB

Some here, with Ubuntu 16.04/64 bit, after upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10

SoapySDRUtil is correctly working.
CubicSDR is starting, find SDRPlay device but, after starting it, my PC is locked and I have 2 flashing leds on my keyboard.

Only power off or reset is able to recovery.

In 15.10 all was correctly working.
And a RTL-SDR device is working without problem with CubicSDR.

I suppose there is something in API in contrast with Ubuntu 16.04 and/or new kernel

For now my advise is to not upgrade to 16.04 until SDRPlay support correct this problem

Thanks Franco for your reply.

Now I know it's not my own fault. I hope sdrplay support is able to look into it soon. Fortunately I kept my working 14.04 installation.

Same here using Ubuntu 16.04
In 15.10 all is working without problem.
After upgrading to 16.04 and recompiling all, SoapySRTUtil is OK but running CubicSDR freeze the computer.

Running CubicSDR with an RTL-SDR device is OK

Until correction of API by SDRPlay support is better don't update to 16.04

Since there were a number of Ubuntu package updates, I tested again today.

Result:
SDRPlay is working with the USB ports marked "SS" (I think this means USB 3.0) on my Laptop. On the "normal" USB ports the Laptop still locks hard.

I *think* I checked all USB ports during my first tests, but I'm not sure, so I don't know if the updates changed behavior or the ports were working before already.

I will re-test this evening
My last test is at 3 of May, without any improvement.

I am using same USB port as in Ubuntu 14.04
And in Ubuntu 14.04 CubicSDR is working without any problem.

On my desktop PC I don't have USB 3 port, so I can't reply your test.

Done another test after updating Ubuntu 16.04
Changed 2 USB port (one is port used for SDRPlay with Ubuntu 14.03, the other is a frontal USB port)

Non change. At startup of SDRPlay, after initial choice of device in CubicSDR, Ubuntu crash with 2 keyboard led flashing.
CubicSDR is correctly working with a RTL-SDR dongle.

Any help from SDRPlay support?
