Do you need a ground when running balun to a longwire ant?

Post by bubblegumpi » Wed Nov 09, 2016 10:13 pm

I listen to the <30 MHz band and recently purchased a 9:1 balun that connects my long wire ant to a piece a 50 or 75 ohm coax. Would it be helpful to solder a wire from a ground rod I have to the outer connection of the BNC connector on the balun? Or does this screw up the impedance? This balun is from china and not even in a metal case so it seems as if there is room for improvement.

Reason: No reason
