RSP2 and Linux

Post by rcscott6 » Sat Feb 11, 2017 1:34 am

I have been having problems using a RSP2 on Linux Mint 18. I have gotten several programs to run, but not to connect to or even see the RSP2. Presumably, this is a driver issue.
I finally got desperate, and installed dual-boot Windows 7 on one of my laptops. I then installed HDSDR, and it ran on the first try, so the radio does work properly.
I do, though, want to run it on Linux to avoid a new rat's nest of wires in my ham shack. Does anyone have an explicit step-by-step write-up to get any of the several Linux-ish programs to run? I have noted considerable comment on this forum about getting anything to run properly under Linux. Any suggestions?

I have a working document that I will release shortly (it will still be updated after release) that details how to get up and running on non-Windows platforms with the RSPs.

FYI, I have both Ubuntu and Mint (which is based on Ubuntu) running fine so I'll plan to release the document either today or tomorrow.

Best regards,

Mint 18 user here. Hoping to see the document mentioned today, or soonish.

Will that great looking software (SDRUno) work on Linux as well? I don't even mind using Wine, if necessary.

Ordered an RSP2 on the strength of the post above. Used to use a QS1R with SDRMax software on ubuntu, so I know what's possible.

Thanks.

http://www.sdrplay.com/downloads - check out the non-Windows document under the App Notes documents section. This is a working document and will be updated regularly.

I just noticed in the document that for CubicSDR I have to build wxwidgets from source.

On Ubuntu 16.04 I just installed wxwidgets and wxwidgets devel packages and could build CubicSDR just fine and it seems to work without problems.

Is there a problem with the standard wxwidgets that I just didn't see up to now?

Would be good if the wxWidgets step could be simplified to just a package add. I had a bit of trouble with it on Mint-18, and others may give up if they face the same difficulty. It may have been because our instructions were based on those for the RTL-SDR and maybe that needs a static build of it, but the RSPs don't.

I didn't try Cubic much after all that, but I failed to get it working for both RTL and RSP2, so had to discover why. I'll use my Windows PC for radio. It's for games, so can do 10Mb/s sample rate quite comfortably...
