Having Trouble Connecting to USB

Postby GT390 » Thu Jan 10, 2019 10:11 pm

I followed the instructions exactly, did not connect my duo and installed the software first
when I connected the duo after software installation a message popped up saying
"the last connected USB device has malfunctioned"

I tried several times again and got no message this time. when starting SDRuno it says no hardware is detected

I uninstalled the software completely and started over from the beginning, the exact same thing happened again

my USB port is working fine as I tested it with a memory stick

any idea`s ? I am running windows 10

so I selected option to Uninstall driver from the uno start menu, then uninstalled uno again and tried everything again

this time it worked, but now its running the program keeps freezing and I have to use control alt delete to end it, I did notice when it closed it flashed up sdruno 32bit, I have been running 64bit windows for years now, could this be the problem ?

as it crashes sometimes the screen just locks solid OR sometimes I get error
"access violation the program will now terminate"

Try a different USB port. Check it's not USB3. Also try a different USB lead, as this has caused problems in the past.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think the problem was caused by a windows automatic update that happened to download at the same time I was installing uno software..(.I got a prompt when I went to shutdown windows that an update had been downloaded) once I uninstalled all the uno software including the driver I ran the windows update again and re-installed uno software and this time it worked..
I am now trying to get to grips with the vast capabilities of the duo ! My first venture into SDR. My biggest gripe so far is the the lack of a physical tuning wheel..I am heading to a repetitive stress failure of my mouse wheel finger..LOL...I have been spending some time storing broadcast FM frequencies into the memory...I wish I had read the manual a little better first as I did not realise when you use the store button it does not save the bank upon shutdown unless you right click and select "save bank", so I had to do it twice. Meanwhile I am really impressed how the DUO pulls in some of the broadcast FM stations, I am using a double discone at only about 10 feet and I have pulled in broadcast FM stations loud and clear that I never knew existed before. I am also into vintage HIFI and am running 2 mono blocked quad 405 amplifiers (200 watts per channel) through a asus Xonar Essence audiophile soundcard into a custom built set of speakers...the FM broadcast quality is quite impressive so far.
I was interested to see the Tmate controller but it is very expensive... I have a bit of experience with CNC machine tool conversions and some of the USB pendant controllers used for interfacing with software programs are very cheap..I wonder could one be adapted or really how possible it would be to build a DIY encoder tuning box..or maybe a complete SDR radio with old style buttons and knobs with a SDR play and micro computer housed within??.. In the CNC world we also have an interface called Pokeys..it can be programmed to accept many different physical inputs into software defined commands...switching, PWM and analogue signals, I am sure it could be interfaced with UNO...

There are several users that have converted an old mouse to a tuning wheel. They take out the mouse electronics, buy a cheap encoder from ebay and machine or buy a tuning knob. Several discussions about it on the SDRplay Facebook group and there may be something in the forum here if you do a search.
