Sdrplay does not work on Linux with gqrx out of the box.
Reason is that sdrplay's driver is not free software.
You have several choices, all of them with quite a lot of manual work and building packages from source.

17.2 kHz will be too low for SDRplay. However, you can simply use your PC sound card for that.

I hope a youtube video will be available soon to help understand the new software, with its multi-window control that seems at first glance, to be overly complicated to understand and use....other than that....I like it a lot.

The users you say you have using the mac, what software are they running GQRX? or something else?
