Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
Got it. I finally noticed that we were behind the antenna in that picture. Everything is assembled and the software ready, but I ordered one wrong connector so anxiously awaiting Amazon tomorrow to finish this!

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
In the United States for GOES 16, the polarity that works best is a diagonal polarity from bottom right to upper left when facing the satellite. Can you clarify this? I'm behind the antenna looking south through the mesh, so I put the right side lower and the left side goes up. But in your pictures...

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
The antenna is back in stock from Provantage as the cheapest spot. Of course I didn't want to risk it
But that means mine is coming in today.

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
Building from scratch might exceed by patience and skill level
Shopblt.com says they will be in stock within two weeks and are < $50 so I jumped on that. Thanks for your advice.

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
To update the thread - ProVantage no longer stocks this antenna, so their price has gone up and the shipping time as well. Google will help you find it cheaper and quicker. And the Sawbird is now available directly. https://www.rtl-sdr.com/nooelec-sawbird-an-lna-filter-for-goes-weather-satellite-rec...

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
Great info - thanks! I'm excited to start piecing this together... I'm one of the original EMWIN software developers from the 90s and while I'm completely satisfied with the Internet feed - going back to the "satellite" roots sounds fun.

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
I like the low-cost part, which is why this caught my eye
I'll be trying with my existing RTL first using Z's mesh antenna instead of the 2.4 version, since the price should be the same, and using the free GOES decoders instead of USA's to see if I can go super-cheap instead...

Re: HRIT and LRIT Low-Cost System
Thanks! In doing some research I found that Zephyrus http://www.big-z.com is making a mesh tuned directly to the 1691 frequency so I sent them a note too...
